To celebrate the journey of coffee from seed-to-cup, we’ve opened our largest destination in Southeast Asia – the Starbucks Dewata Coffee Sanctuary. This one-of-a-kind Coffee Sanctuary builds upon 16 years of innovation in design, customer experience and community impact in Indonesia. The store pays tribute to the important role that Indonesia, the fourth largest Arabica coffee growing region in the world, plays in bringing Starbucks customers the highest quality coffees. This includes the popular single-origin coffee from Sumatra. Sumatran coffee has been a staple at Starbucks since 1971. #tobeapartner

Starbucks Taiwan opened its first store in Asia Pacific built from recycled shipping containers. The new Starbucks is located in a beautiful landscape facing the Pacific Ocean. This drive thru location continues Starbucks history of sustainability by recycling 29 used shipping containers to form the store’s structure. The store is 320 square meters and two stories tall with lots of natural sunlight through the various skylights found in the structure. This unique exterior design was envisioned and brought to life by the famed Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma, who has also the exterior architect for the upcoming Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Tokyo. This is the first time Kuma has used shipping containers for his designs and was inspired by the foliage of coffee trees combined with the traditional Chinese bucket arch. Check out the newest free-standing café in Kobe, Japan. This store is an expressive addition to an exuberant collection of public structures and art in Kobe Meriken Park. Set into the waterfront park and styled as a ship at harbor, the unusual shape serves the environment as well to connect with the neighborhood. 🚢 The building incorporates many responsible construction practices, materials, and design strategies as a LEED registered store. From a wide green roof shielding the café seating, locally harvested wood for the bar front, to the cement boards containing our recycled coffee grounds and paper cups. All of this means we have reduced energy and material consumption which results in increased opportunities to connect with our neighbors in ever more meaningful ways! We hope we get to visit this unusual and beautiful store soon! 💚 #tobeapartner #starbucksstoredesign
