可爱的动物总是让我们十分惊喜开心，不过这群海豹的遭遇却让人一点儿也笑不出来。加拿大政府近来由于冷眼旁观史上规模最大海洋动物屠杀，任商人夺走近47万只海豹的性命，因而不断受到大量舆论砲火攻击。

加拿大每年三、四月都有所谓的「海豹打猎季」，为了谋取毛皮便冷酷无情地把成千只海豹宝宝打死。尽管国际上近乎禁止贩卖海豹毛皮，近几年的海豹猎捕量还是不断攀升。

狩猎者之所以使用刺棒或球棒作为狩猎工具，是怕损伤毛皮。(刺棒用法为直接刺穿海豹脑袋，并用尖端的钩把尸体拖走。) 虽然狩猎者与加拿大政府声称他们的手段十分人性，动物保护机构却揭露许多海豹活生生被剥皮，死亡过程非常痛苦。

上个月，加拿大渔业署把海豹的猎取量订为40万只竖琴海豹、60万只灰海豹及8200只冠海豹，总体猎杀数高达46.8万只以上。用途上，除了毛皮以外，猎人还为了获取他们厚厚的脂肪层，拿来制成所谓的海豹油，作为保健食品。而其阳具，也作为一些亚洲市场中的催情材料。

虽然明文禁止狩猎者猎杀海豹宝宝，但事实上，许多才10-21天大的海豹宝宝却依然死于猎人手里。之后就要开始死命地逃。
