Knodell是一位古董收藏家，他的人生中有大半的时间都在找寻旧东西和估价，日前他从德州一场遗产拍卖会上花了100美元 (约台币3000元) 买了一个五斗柜。

Knodell is an antiquer, spending a lot of his spare time at estate sales scoping out the goods. He recently purchased a $100 dresser from an estate in Missouri City, Texas. "It had a nice marble top," Knodell said in an interview. I hoped to use it in my dining room.

Knodell觉得这个柜子的大理石台面很漂亮，可以摆在他的餐厅里头。

但当他买完柜子、和拍卖会的员工一起试图将柜子搬上车时，他们却听到了柜子里发出奇怪的声响…但这几个抽屉里头都清空了，应该没有东西才对呀？

When he and a staff member from the sale tried to move the dresser, they heard a strange racket coming from inside. All the drawers were empty, so they couldn't figure out where the noise was coming from. Then they noticed a panel on the bottom - only it wasn't a panel, it was a secret compartment.

于是他们发现了这个柜子除了3个抽屉外、最下层还有一个隐密的隔间…拉开隐藏的抽屉之后，发现里面装了许多旧币、一些镶有钻石和祖母绿的珠宝、一捆头发和军队兵籍名牌，甚至还有内战的纪事录！

"When you look at the front of it, it looks like it has three obvious drawers with molding on the base, but the bottom has a secret drawer that opens up," Knodell said. The secret drawer contained old currency, jewelry with emeralds and diamonds, a lock of hair, military dog tags and even Civil War memorabilia.

想当然尔这些年代久远的宝藏当然价值不菲，但Knodell却没有开心地认为赚到了并且把这些东西带回家、而是选择将这些珍宝还给五斗柜的前所有人！

Most people would consider keeping the find, but for Knodell, it was out of the question. "I bought the chest drawers. I didn’t buy those things. If I kept them, I would never feel right about it. There would be a cloud over the whole thing. It’s a feeling more than anything else."

Knodell表示「我只有买这个五斗柜而已，并没有买里头的这些东西，如果我据为己有的话、或许会永远都觉得很不好受…就像一片永远笼罩着的乌云一样。」于是他联络了这个柜子已故主人的儿子，并且将他老爸私藏的宝物全数归还了。
