"This project was my response to dealing with the news that I had skin cancer, when I found out all I could think of was that I wanted to do something that my girls would never forget, that they could always remember and smile about. I also needed something to help me focus on positiveness while I got my treatments. Again sorry for it being so long, I think I'm supposed to give you a potato if you read the whole thing?

"Okay, so this is now ready to begin."

鐵欄杆的另一邊就是鄰居家，他們養了三隻軍犬，每次爸爸或女兒經過的時候就想咬他們，所以他決定蓋個籬笆。

"Looking towards my neighbor's house where there are three military dogs that try to bite me and my little girls every time we get close to the fence. I'll be adding a barrier."

在搬運木頭的過程中，他的膝蓋受傷了兩次，第二次讓他有2天的時間都無法走路。幸好他找了2個好朋友來幫他搬了50袋沙。

"I blew out my knee twice moving the wood to the back. Second time I couldn't walk for two days, but had two good buddies help me move the 50 bags of sand."

他用加壓木材組成了2 x 6的外框，並用鍍鋅釘子固定。

"Now the real work begins. I framed out a 2x6 deck with pressure treated lumber and used 16d galvanized framing nails to put it all together. As a note, I've since built a deck for someone else and they lent me their nail gun: I will never do hand framing again. Nail guns are like the best thing since microwave popcorn."

接著把支架都立起來，用匣板螺絲固定，並確認每個支架都是垂直，而且彼此平行之後，把水泥倒進下面的基座。

"Okay so first I raised all the pieces up and screwed them together with decking screws and moved along all sides ensuring that I got everything level, square and plumb. I didn't take a photo of it, but I dug and poured concrete for each of the posts with good post anchors at the bottom."

再蓋上木板。

接著他想要做一個讓女兒能在上面騎車，可以遮陽，又能種植物的地方。

"I hated the empty garden area above and wanted to make a place for my girls to use their scooters but which also had shade and that I could grow some plants."

所以他搭了這個棚架。

「要立起這個12英尺 (3.6公尺) 的牆，還有那些4 x 4英吋 (10 x 10公分) 的柱子非常痛苦，我試了第三次才抬得夠高，能從底下把它立起來，但過程中突然颳起風，我還以為死定了。避免你們太擔心：我沒有死啦。」

"Trying to lift a 12' wall that is framed with 4x4 posts was extremely painful, on the third try I was able to jerk it high enough to get under and push it vertical. At one point the wind started blowing and I thought I would die. I didn't though in case you were worried."

50袋沙都倒進下面，做成沙坑，旁邊也全部用加壓木材支撐，並用螺栓固定。他也自製了一個黑板。

"I built them a sand box below the deck using 50 bags of sand. I also placed a pressure treated 2x6 all the way around the bottom and used two 1/2" bolts at every connection. It was now crazy strong. You can also see the chalkboard at the back which I made using hardie tile backer board and screwing to the studs and painting it with a flat black exterior latex paint."

接著他在最前面的柱子加了大約45度角的支架，好支撐側面的力量。

"As one final detail to provide lateral shear strength, I put three 4x6 posts and buried them into the ground at the front at approx 45 degrees and I then covered these with 2x6 boards and bolted them through."

搭好上半部的小屋後，他掛上粉紅色的蚊帳，以及太陽能的發光蜂鳥風鈴，因為覺得那跟他很像。

"Everything that went into this is more clear in the video, but I stained the playhouse and put up pink mosquito netting for the girls and some solar powered hummingbird chime lights, because I'm like that."

他在前廊種了紫薇和朱槿。

"And here is now the gate area with the planters installed and I planted the flowers which are crepe myrtle and hibiscus."

他還在小屋上裝了閃亮的小燈。

"So I installed some twinkle lights on my daughter's playhouse because that's how I roll."

這樣的燈光不會太亮，但可以讓女孩們在晚上也可以到外面玩，而且遠離電視！

"Oh yeah! And now we can see amazingly. The lights aren't too bright but the warm soft glow enables us to stay outside (and away from the TV) during the night. Yay!"

"Here are some final after photos, you can see I put a trampoline here as well."

上面有15公尺 (50英吋) x 90公分 (3英吋) 的腳踏車車道，旁邊種了茉莉和紫藤。

"This is the upper walkway area. I framed a 50' x 3' scooter path using pressure treated 2x4s and pressure treated 3/4" plywood and staining it the same redwood color as the deck. Also I planted a bunch of jasmine against the wall and wisteria at every post."

完全變成了孩子的遊樂園！
